Red Cross Sports Day 2017
The Running Charity joined forces with the Red Cross for the first time this summer to deliver an exciting day of sport at the Linford Christie Stadium. After taking young people to watch the World Para Athletics Championships at Stratford Olympic Stadium, and with the championships still fresh in our minds, everyone was motivated and up for the day ahead. The morning began with cricket followed by The Running Charity mixing up the activities. Programme Officers, Ezrin and Rachael, planned a variety of fun relays, including wheel barrow races, piggy-backs and fun games to encourage teamwork and communication. Everyone completed 400m on the track – it was a great effort by all and a fantastic way to finish the day and celebrate!
Programme Officer, Rachael, said of the event: “It was great to see over 45 young people, staff and volunteers enjoying the day and getting a great work out, whilst meeting new people and building friendships.”
Karen Young, Refugee Project Coordinator at the Red Cross, described the day as ‘awesome’, with young people stating it as the highlight of their week! We look forward to working with Red Cross in the future – thank you again to all the Red Cross staff and volunteers on the day for making it happen!
After all, what better way to spend a day than filling it with sport?
